The Role

The Youth Engagement & Development Officer is responsible for coordinating youth programs and school initiatives in the local diocese and promoting youth involvement within the Society, in accordance with the Society strategic direction, mission, policies, procedures and philosophy. 

The role will lead a diocesan team of volunteers by:

  • Coordinating programs that support community participation and build safe, strong and resilient children and young people
  • Supporting program volunteers and promoting pathways to Society membership
  • Contributing critical knowledge and specialist skills for the development of localised strategies as required
  • Developing and facilitating school engagement opportunities

This position will also provide supervision for volunteers within the Diocese, managing the program budget and financials. This position is required to work closely with the State Youth Administration Team.

This is a fixed- term, full- time position (38 hours per week) until October 2027 based in Southport.
 


To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary Qualification Degree in social work, psychology, social sciences or a related discipline
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Experience in working with at-risk children, young people and families, who are subject to child protection statutory interventions
  • A good understanding of child development and trauma theory, to inform assessment and decision making
  • A good understanding of the Queensland child protection system including relevant legislation such as the Child Protection Act 1999.
  • Ability in working within boundaries and well-developed task management skills
  • Demonstrates a high degree of motivation, initiative and creativity
  • Contribute positively within a team environment
  • Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
  • The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Blue Card.
  • COVID-19 vaccination status is recommended for this role but not a mandatory requirement.
