About the role

Project Make Lemonade is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker - (SIL) to join our team in Coomera, QLD. This is a casual position that plays a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible within supported independent living (SIL) environments. You will provide essential assistance and care to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of our clients, whilst promoting their autonomy, dignity and inclusion within the community. This role is fundamental to our mission of empowering people with disabilities to achieve their goals and participate meaningfully in their communities.

Key responsibilities

You will be providing 1:1 and 2:1 support to participants with high-intensity needs within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) setting.

Provide personal care support including assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) such as showering, dressing, grooming and meal preparation

Support clients with medication management and health-related tasks in accordance with support plans

Facilitate community participation and social activities, encouraging clients to engage with their local community

Assist clients with budgeting, shopping, and other life skills tasks as outlined in their individualised support plans

Maintain a safe and clean living environment, supporting clients with household maintenance and cleaning tasks

Document support provided, monitor client wellbeing and report on any changes or concerns to supervisory staff

Build positive, respectful relationships with clients, treating them with dignity and respecting their choices and preferences

Support clients' goals and aspirations, encouraging independence and self-determination where possible

Work collaboratively with the team to ensure consistency of support and adherence to care plans

Maintain confidentiality and comply with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures including the NDIS Code of Conduct

What we're looking for

A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and commitment to person-centred care

Experience supporting participants with complex behaviours and high support needs

Strong understanding of Positive Behaviour Support practices

Ability to remain calm, patient, and proactive in challenging situations

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships

Physical capability to provide hands-on care and support as required by the role

Ability to work independently whilst remaining part of a collaborative team

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Reliability, punctuality and a professional approach to casual work commitments

Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain one

A valid driver's licence is preferred to support community access activities

First Aid and CPR certification is preferred

Understanding of and commitment to the NDIS principles and person-centred approaches to support

Availability for sleepover shifts, weekends, and day shifts
