The Optimising Abilities Difference Optimising Abilities delivers person-centred, evidence-informed support across South-East Queensland. We focus on simple, practical strategies that people can use every day to help participants with complex needs reach their goals.
The Role
We are recruiting a dedicated Support Worker on the Gold Coast who thrives in a highly autonomous yet deeply accountable environment. Your position is critical to the participant's wellbeing; they rely entirely on your proactive nature and your drive to facilitate a fulfilling daily routine.
Your focus will be on improving the participant's quality of life and developing their capacity over time. We expect our team to maximize their impact on shift. During quieter periods, you are expected to engage in comprehensive household management. This includes deep cleaning, identifying and reporting on household supply needs, suggesting environmental improvements, and conducting critical stocktakes of first aid kits, emergency kits, go-bags, car safety kits, and staff supplies. Additionally, you will research engaging community events that perfectly match the participant's hobbies, proposing these ideas to management well ahead of time to ensure proper planning and execution.
The Approach & Client Matching:
Clinical Documentation: You are the ultimate voice of the client. Demonstrated experience in detailed shift notes, documentation, and reporting is mandatory. Your reporting ensures their needs are communicated and their progress is tracked effectively.
Therapeutic Rapport: You must exhibit exceptional patience to build trust and rapport, approaching every single shift with a "take each day as a new day" mentality.
Paced Growth: You have the clinical maturity to understand that genuine improvements to quality of life happen steadily over time, not overnight.
Mental Health Expertise (Mandatory): Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with mental health challenges and complex communication support needs.
Minimum of 1-2 years' experience supporting individuals with mental health challenges is required.
Animal Care: An absolute animal lover. The participant's home is shared with birds, fish, reptiles, scorpions, and cats (including a beautiful white cat).
Mandatory Compliance:
NDIS Worker Screening Card & Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
First Aid & CPR Certificate.
Completed NDIS Modules: Worker Orientation, Induction, Safe Eating, and Safe Communication.
Open Australian Driver's Licence.
Flexibility to work a mix of morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts.
To Apply:
Please submit your resume alongside a custom cover letter. We want to hear about your specific mental health experience, your personal interests/hobbies, and your shift availability.
