About the role:
We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Draftsperson to support our manufacturing operations. Working closely with our production and fabrication teams, you will work to develop solutions that will improve safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity across the workshop. This role offers a variety of design work and hands-on involvement, from creating detailed CAD models and drawings through to prototype development, testing, and implementation.
You will also play a key role in troubleshooting production issues, supporting new product introduction, and driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop jigs, fixtures, tooling, and production aids
- Produce detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software
- Support the introduction of new products into production
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Modify and improve existing designs
- Conduct necessary research, calculations, and problem-solving
- Develop, trial, and refine prototypes, including hands-on workshop involvement
Experience & Requirements:
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for 3D modelling and drafting
- Experience with Autodesk Vault or similar document control systems highly regarded
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication and machining processes
- Ability to produce accurate, workshop-ready engineering drawings
- Previous experience in design of jigs, fixtures, and production tooling highly regarded
- Knowledge of hydraulics, material handling equipment, or FEA desirable
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- A strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
